STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT, May 7,
2001 - PrimeLearning.com®™, a leading international
provider of business skills eLearning solutions for
the corporate training market, launched substantive improvements
to its Prime eLearning System™. While this release
is rich with improved features, the real benefits to clients
are what these new capabilities represent in terms of:
- Increased interactivity that aids in sharpened retention
of key learning points.
- Expanded customization to meet company-specific and
learner needs.
- Heightened privacy safeguards for secure sharing of
proprietary information.
"We are constantly working to enhance our eLearning
system," said Terry O'Brien, founder and CEO of PrimeLearning.com®.
"We listen to feedback from our clients and our learners in
order to provide an increasingly valuable learning experience.
We have repeatedly heard the need for a customized eLearning
environment that leverages our ability to provide confidentiality
around sensitive issues - in a cost-effective manner. I am
proud to say that these innovations represent the best the
business skills eLearning industry offers in those
key areas."
Changes to the eLearning System™ include:
Enhanced Collaborative Capabilities
Scheduled Chat Rooms. In order to heighten the utility
of chat rooms, clients, learners, and mentors can now "schedule"
chat events. Traditionally, learners entered chat rooms at
will without any guarantee of the presence of other participants
with specific knowledge of the material to be covered. Recognizing
the value that more structured chat sessions offer learners,
PrimeLearning.com® now provides the option to plan and promote
specific topics or curriculum-related chat events, and allow
interested parties to pre-register. Following this same scenario,
mentors can also expand their roles and effectiveness by initiating
chat sessions and scheduling groups of learners around specific
topics.
Company-Specific Collaborative Events. Particularly
important to corporations is the added ability to create company-specific
chat rooms, discussion forums, and virtual classes. Now a
single company or multiple companies with a shared relationship
can schedule and create customized company-specific or product-specific
learning communities.
Benefits from enhanced collaborative capabilities are:
- Customization of dynamic, synchronous interactions around
company-specific material.
- Increased learner retention from customized material
meeting individual goals.
- Shared proprietary/confidential information within a
private environment.
- Just-in-time employee training on new product features,
product launches, and services - anytime, anywhere, with
rapid turnaround time.
- Accelerated deployment of training within partner companies,
as well as to employees.
Company-sponsored mentoring. Traditionally, clients
have relied on their eLearning service provider to
make available online mentors. While this still may be advantageous
for some companies, others may prefer to provide their own
mentors or to have their own mentors co-exist with their service
provider's mentors. PrimeLearning.com® now offers this service
through a company-level mentoring capability, whereby company-assigned
mentors can serve as subject experts.
Benefits from company-sponsored mentoring are:
- Immediate access to company-specific intellectual assets.
- Shared company information within a secure environment.
Integration of 3rd party courseware. Realizing the
importance that clients place on offering courses from multiple
providers, PrimeLearning.com® now offers the ability to effectively
launch and track 3rd party, web-based courseware that adheres
to AICC standards. If a client company has selected courseware
from different sources, and those systems follow recognized
industry standards, PrimeLearning.com®, through its enhanced
eLearning System, now provides a full integration
capability that allows learners to access an entire library
of courses from one eLearning system.
Benefits from integration of 3rd party courseware are:
- A customized, quality learning experience accessing
the best that eLearning offers.
- Centralized tracking and reporting.
- Third party content can also take full advantage of
all the eLearning System features, including
associated collaborative events such as chat, forums and
virtual classes; supplemental resources; and company-specific
resources.
Intersystem Data Exchange Component (ISDE). Because
PrimeLearning.com® has taken a standards-based approach, the
eLearning System now has the ability to share
data with other systems in a standardized manner. Using the
open XML-based IMS Enterprise Information Model to share data
between the eLearning System and other systems,
a variety of information can be shared, such as user profiles,
group profiles, tracking data, self-registrations, eCommerce,
testing systems, human resource systems, and learning management
systems. For instance, users can self-register in one system
and that registration can be seamlessly and transparently
integrated into the eLearning System.
Benefits from ISDE are:
- Multiple systems can be accessed, transparently and
seamlessly, and integrated into the eLearning
System so that learning is customized to a customer's
needs.
- Integration into the eLearning System is
easy, fast, and cost-effective.
- Existing systems can be integrated and leveraged to
create a single "best-of-breed" system.
Other notable capabilities incorporated into this new release
are:
- Anonymity through the use of sign-on "nicknames," which
will yield greater participation from learners.
- Automatic, timely notifications and reminders of upcoming
classes and other special events. Learners can also automatically
receive advance materials such as handouts on a just-in-time
basis in preparation for an event such as a virtual class
or scheduled chat session.
- An advanced search feature allowing greater filtering
of chosen search categories.
"These innovative enhancements are important to companies
because they can now quickly link training to significant
company-specific needs and corporate events, thus rapidly
getting from business concept to practical application," affirmed
Paula Boyle of Kinetic Information, a leading Internet consultant.
"What PrimeLearning.com® has done is a true integration of
creativity, technical skills, and an insightful understanding
of business and corporate needs."
