Project Management |
Projects can take a great many
forms. You may have been asked to lead the development of
a new product or service for your organization. Perhaps
it's the development of a new piece of software, or new
packaging for an existing product, or the design of a new
household appliance. Or perhaps you have been asked to lead
a new marketing campaign, design a new web-site, or even
build a new facility for your organization!
Whatever the nature of the project, its success or failure
will be influenced largely by the effectiveness of the Project
Management function of your organization.
But what is Project Management exactly? As we have seen,
projects vary hugely in scope and in the activities required
to make them happen. But they do share many characteristics.
Costs, timelines, resources and risks all have to be managed,
and the project will have at least one tangible, defined
goal. To achieve that goal, the activities - as well as
the project team and stakeholder expectations - have to
be managed effectively. And that demands the application
of a broad range of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques
on the part of the Project Manager.
You can think of Project Management in terms of five distinct
processes: Initiating, Planning, Executing, Controlling
and Closing the project. The Project Management Institute
(PMI) also recognizes nine distinct 'knowledge areas' which
'cut across' these processes, each of which the Project
Manager has to apply at various phases of a project. These
knowledge areas are Project Integration Management, Scope
Management, Time Management, Cost Management, Quality Management,
Human Resource Management, Communications Management, Risk
Management, and Procurement Management.
You'll be glad to know that PrimeLearning.com has
designed its top-selling Project Management courses with
all of this in mind. These courses, based on material provided
by John Eggert, Ph.D., are available exclusively through
PrimeLearning.com. Dr. Eggert, certified as a Project
Management Professional by the Project Management Institute,
has implemented complex projects and conducted Project Management
training for many global Fortune 500 firms. |

We Offer |
| The PrimeProject Management Fundamentals
curriculum provides the foundation for the successful start-up,
planning, and implementation of projects of any size and
scope. The curriculum is structured around the five processes
described above (Initiating, Planning, Executing, Controlling
and Closing). Clear, easy-to-follow steps create
a dynamic learning experience for professionals with little
or no project management experience, as well as those with
moderate experience as either the leader or member of a
project team. The curriculum offers a total of 20 hours
eLearning. This is made up of eight courses (16 hours),
each including a Self Check Assessment, and an additional
4 hours of on-line resources that include Job Aids, Glossary,
Recommended Reading Lists, Web Links, and Archived Virtual
Classes. |

The PrimeProject Management Professional curriculum
introduces advanced level Project Management techniques
within the areas of organization, resource management,
quality assurance, and internal and external team communication.
The course content is based on the nine project management
knowledge areas defined by the Project Management Institute
(PMI), and described above. The courses, which may be
taken in any order, offer experienced Project Managers
and team members a dynamic learning experience to sharpen
their professional skills. The final course of the curriculum
is especially useful, as it provides comprehensive reinforcement
of knowledge attainment through a series of sample test
items covering each of the nine categories defined by
PMI's Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). This
curriculum offers a total of 46 hours eLearning, made
up of 12 courses (41 hours), each including a Self Check
Assessment, and an additional 5 hours of on-line resources
that include Job Aids, Glossary, Recommended Reading Lists,
Web Links, and Archived Virtual Classes.
PrimeProject Management Professional has recently
been updated (May 2003) to include a new course covering
the area of "Professional Responsibility", a
new addition, which now accounts for 14.5% of the PMP
certification exam.

| Certification |
| PMI's Project
Management Professional (PMP®) credential is the Project
Management profession's most globally recognized and respected
certification credential. To obtain PMP certification you
must satisfy education and experience requirements, agree
to and adhere to a Code of Professional Conduct, and pass
the PMP Certification Examination.
Candidates must have 35 contact hours of education or
training prior to sitting the PMP exam. This is where
PrimeProject
Management Fundamentals and PrimeProject
Management Professional fit in. If you have experience
as a Project Manager and have studied some basic materials
on the subject, including an understanding of the five
key phases described above, then PrimeProject Management
Professional covers everything you'll need to know to
prepare for the PMP exam and provides you with 46 of the
35 hours required.
If on the other hand you are relatively new to Project
Management, studying and Mastering PrimeProject Management
Fundamentals - as a prerequisite to PrimeProject
Management Professional - not only gives you a full
understanding of these phases, but also familiarizes you
with the PMI's use of terminology, all of which will boost
the PMP candidate's chances of success. And by studying
and Mastering both curricula, you qualify for a total
of 66 hours of qualified education.
 |
Once qualified as a PMP,
to maintain Certification you must accrue a minimum
of 60 Professional Development Units (PDUs) every
three years. This is where the entire PrimeLearning.com
product
library can help. As a Registered Education Provider,
PrimeLearning.com is now offering PDUs to candidates
who successfully complete specified PrimeLearning.com
courses. And when you have successfully Mastered a
PrimeLearning.com curriculum, we will issue a Certificate
of Mastery to you free of charge. |

Do you have a date by which all employees have to complete
their training? Add this date to the system and have our
automated Mentoring prompt your learners to completion.
Do you want to run reports to see who has started or completed
their training? We'll set your learners up in groups and
allow manager(s) to run these and other reports any time.
Do you need special database extracts to interface with
your HR Management systems? We can do this too!

Are your employees distributed over various sites? Training
is entirely over the Internet, with no Instructor-Led

we can advise on how you might do this using the traditional
